In a mission to end social isolation, Jaya Manjunath, the founder of Seniors with Skills created a program to encourage and assist our younger generation to volunteer and change the lives of our elders. Hear how this non-profit is run primarily by university students, teaching all of us that you are never too young to change the world! Social isolation is a public health crisis for our seniors and with Covid-19, we are even more aware of this trend. We look at what those negative health effects are of social isolation and how Seniors with Skills on-line buddy program that can be implemented at home or in a senior living community to provides companionship and fight loneliness.

Jaya Manjunath serves as the founder and executive director of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Seniors with Skills, a nonprofit determined to end social isolation of senior citizens. Over the past 8 years, she has been volunteering at multiple retirement homes and decided to create a platform to encourage others to do the same. Since COVID-19 hit, Seniors with Skills has been running the Online Buddy Program, where volunteers are video chatting with seniors at nursing homes and living at home. She is extremely passionate about seniors’ health and overall wellbeing and is dedicated to preventing and ending social isolation of senior citizens. Jaya will be entering The George Washington School of Medicine this fall and hopes to continue serving seniors and underserved populations through the medical field.
